Presenting... CYNDI! TA-DAAA!!!

Hey, Howdy-ho there neighbors! My name is Cyndi. I am 25 years old. I'm simplistic yet particular. I love coffee and animals. I have 1 dog named Zoe, 1 cat named Lucifer, 1 chinchilla named Harmony, and 2 parrots named Spike and Robyn. I work at the Disneyland Resort... so I have a mouse as my boss. I am my parent’s only child. Unlike most kids I get along with both parents very well. My mom works at See's Candies (the one on Tampa and Vanowen [drop by and say hi to Patty :D]) and my Dad is unfortunately very sick at home. He's currently on a list for a lung transplant from UCLA and I hope everyday that he gets one... (and no, he doesn't smoke... in case you were wondering... we get that question a lot). I am presently engaged and getting married on November 7th, 2009 to a wonderful (that word doesn't even begin to describe) man named David whom I adore! :D

I am in my final semester here at Cal State Northridge! ;D Woot-woot! I have had a very interesting scholastic journey. I graduated from Notre Dame H.S. in Sherman Oaks. I received a full-ride scholarship to Cal State Fullerton to become a music major with my primary instrument being the flute. I have played the flute now for 17 years. Unfortunately, given some financial circumstances I had to make a choice that would inevitably set me back two years in college. I chose to change my major and school. I moved back home to Sherman Oaks and attended College of the Canyons. Within my two years at COC I played on the Women's Water Polo team and also received my AA in English. I then moved back to Fullerton and attended Fullerton College. After a year, I decided to go to the school I told my parents and friends I would never go to. ;) (I know... you're thinking... 'wouldn't it be easier if she went to Cal State Fullerton again?!' - Well, the fact that I gave up my music was still very difficult to get over and CSUF would remind me of it frequently) I happy to say that I've met many friends here at CSUN and I love the environment. I'll be proud to have CSUN on my diploma!

I'm a little scared right now. I know that I want to teach and I'm excited to get out there and do it. What scares me is, taking that first step and getting everything together and interviewing. I don't know how to approach a school/principle and ask for a position. I know this sounds stupid but I'm uncomfortable with the getting the teaching position part. Not so much, the ACTUAL teaching aspect of it all. Sounds silly right? I love teaching and fortunately I get to teach for Disney (but it’s not the same teaching adults as it is Jr. High kids). So that leads to the next part... I want to teach Jr. High. I love that age and the attitude the kids have. They make me laugh most times. I was inspired to teach English because I had one teacher who made me admire a subject I previously hated. This teacher taught me to appreciate the art of language. I hope as a teacher I could do the same for the students. I don't think anyone should give up on a subject just because they had non-supportive teachers in the past.

But aside from everything... DUDE! Most of us are GRADUATING!!!! OMGoodness!

  1. Hi Cyndi!
I love coffee and animals too! (haha) What exactly do you do for your job? Do you ever get sick of Disneyland? I love going to Disneyland! I really enjoyed reading your blog because you opened up so much about your life. Reading other blogs, I feel like there are many engagee's (if I can make up a word) in our class. So as I told Melanie, you'll have to share pictures of your dress if you know what it is by the end of the semester!

I think it is amazing how one teacher that we have can change our whole outlook on life. I totally agree when you say that you don't want students to give up a subject because of a teacher with a bad attitude.

Finally, I hope the best for your dad and will keep him in my prayers. As for your mom, let her know that if she ever needs to donate any portion of caramel lollipops, I will gladly take them off her hands.

  2. Hey Cyndi!! I think I learned more about you from your blog than I have in the 4(?) semesters that I've known you. Well congrats on graduating it must be really exciting, especially because you have a wedding depending on it (eeeeep!) I'm sure you'll do great though. Well I have to say I admire the fact that you want to teach middle school kids. I don't think I'd be able to do it because my brother is thirteen and he's the most annoying thing in the world. For your sake, I hope they are not all like him. But yes, I'm so happy to see that you have so much excitement coming in '09! That's great! It seems like it's going to be a good year in general. So what made you decide to pick English as your major? I guess I've just met a lot of music majors that don't get or enjoy English. It's great that you enjoy both!

  3. Hi Cyndi!!

The first book was also pretty slow for me too only because I did the mistake of watching the movie first. There really weren't big discrepancies between the first book and the movie hence no surprises. I think New Moon picks up pretty well and is a little darker. I read the series in a pretty relaxed environment (winter break) when I wasnt stressed out over anything so I think that played alot with how well I gave into Twilight. The last book gets a little ambitious and far-fetched, but again, I was reading it in the mindset of a romantic preteen AHAHA! If you keep your expectations low, you'll be amazed at how sweet the story really is.

Aside from Twilight, I'm pretty jealous about your pets. I've never had pets so your birds, dogs, cats etc. are so cool!! Hopefully I'll be able to get a dog this summer, and break my horrible deprivation lol.

Also, like you, I do want to teach middle school because I relate so much with that age group. I mean, I pretty much look like a middle schooler, so it would be great to not only psych out my students, but also make connections with them earlier on. Eventually, I do plan to teach high school mainly because I think high school would offer more material or content (books) that I would be more prone to teach. Either way, I think you express the same fears I do, and it's pretty comforting to know I'm not alone (cheesy, i know) haha. But hey good luck with everything! See you...tomorrow!

  4. Hi Cindy!
I played the bass when I was in high school, but I wasn’t really good at it. However, I think it’s really cool that you play the flute and you got a scholarship! You must be a terrific flute player! Your dynamic university/college journey is much more interesting than mine. I came straight to CSUN and I feel I have been here for too long! Haha. But yes, I am also graduating this semester! Yay! When I was in high school I also was not fond of English, but in my 11th grade year I had a teacher that taught me how to write and organize an essay and ever since then I have been in love with writing essays. He was the only English teacher who took the time to teach use how to write effective essays and the only one who took the time to teach us how to analyze literature. My 11th grade English teacher is the reason why I want to become an English teacher …I think I have you for a couple of classes this semester so See you around! =)
